Planning to host a Teen Dance Party?  If so, consider these 5 Tips.
  1. Tip #1- Recognize that teenagers are growing up fast and that some may be tempted to experiment with alcohol. It must be made clear up front by the hosts that alcohol will not be tolerated, period.
  2. Tip #2- Establish your guest list by quantity and quality. The guest list should be comprised of a close knit inner circle of friends and family members who realize how special this day is and who would not engage in behavior that will ultimately ruin the party.  "Fringe Friends" who are not part of the inner circle should not be invited or permitted to attend.
  3. Tip #3- Do not allow teenagers to bring water bottles to the party as they are clever, sometimes filling these canisters with vodka.  Teens should also not be permitted to leave the building until the party concludes.
  4. Tip #4 - Be proactive and consider utilizing a security officer provided by the facility and/or recruit a family member or trusted friend to keep a watchful eye as this will be an effective deterrent for unwanted behavior.
  5. Tip # 5- Rhythm on the dance floor has evolved and with this, "bumping and grinding" has become a fad among some teens.  Use your discretion as to whether or not or to what extent this will be permitted as this could reflect poorly upon the family.

Most importantly, keep it safe and classy and you will have a memorable Teen Dance Party!

Suggested Mother/Son dance songs for a wedding reception from a Columbus DJ

Having worked with many couples, I have observed that one of the most challenging decisions centers around choosing a song for the Mother-Son dance. There are not as many options as there are for the Father-Daughter dance and secondly, choosing a song containing the lyrics that describe the bond between mother & son is important.

Making the decision. Believe it or not, the wedding day is an emotionally charged day for the mother of the groom and the song she will dance to with her son is significant to her. I typically suggest to the groom that he approach his mother and ask her what song she would like to dance to. This gives her buy in and is another way for the groom to share with his mother how much she means to him and how much she has influenced his life.

Listen to the lyrics carefully; making sure they represent the bond between a mother and her son as opposed to the love between the bride and her groom.

The suggested songs below are time-tested and contain appropriate lyrics and themes.  Feel free to respond with your favorites and/or offer suggestions if not on the list.

1. My Wish: Rascal Flatts
2. Wonderful World: Louis Armstrong
3. A Song For Mama: Boys 2 Men

Winter Wedding.  Nelli McCamon & Brandon Petry made it official on Saturday, December 29th, exchanging vows at the Bent Tree Golf Club in Sunbury.  The backdrop for the ceremony was a sparkling white snow covered golf course which set the stage for some beautiful outdoor wedding pictures.  The reception celebration took place in the ballroom overlooking the golf course.  The Bride & Groom will honeymoon in Las Vegas.  All my best Nelli & Brandon!

Rachel & Adam Clark flew in from their home in the Cayman Islands for their nuptials followed by a celebration with friends and family at the Columbus Athanaeum. In this photo, some of the gents captured the AC/DC look as they rocked it out to "Shook Me All Night Long". All my best Rachel & Adam!

The Night Vegas Came To Town. On Saturday evening, Barr & Prevost treated their corporate friends to a night of gaming & cheer as guests tried their luck with Craps, Roulette, Texas Hold 'Em and Black Jack. As the DJ, I raised the maximum bet $5,000 each hour (fake currency of course) and engaged guests in Name That Tune and a scavenger hunt. A good time was had by all while classic Italian Mob Hits filled the air in addition to Pink Floyd's "Money" and "Winning" by Santana.

Jessica Inkrott & Douglas Palmer exchanged vows on Saturday, November 17th and celebrated with family & friends at the LaScala Italian Bistro in Dublin.  The Bride & Groom arrived curbside, in style, in a 1960’s era Mustang, ready to celebrate.  Following the fine Italian cuisine they were served, the dance floor had no shortage of energy and guests responded to a wide genre of classic music that spanned the decades.  Congratulations Dr. & Douglas Palmer.  All my best!  Jeff Madama:  Millennium Mobile DJ
