Cruising Down Memory Lane

As a Columbus Ohio wedding DJ, I’m in tune with the concept of making your guests feel like essential parts of your big day by incorporating them into the decor to even include a gallery.  You may consider hanging pictures of the bride & groom with friends and family along the corridor leading from the ceremony to the reception.  It will ignite the conversations during cocktail hour and as your guests discover pictures of themselves with you, the reminiscing will be magical.

A Non-Traditional Grand Entrance

When facing your guests for the first time as husband and wife at the wedding reception, break from tradition with a high energy unexpected grand entrance.  This could include a choreographed entrance whereby bridal party members stage their moves to a preplanned song for each pairing and after all bridal party members have entered, they form a tunnel for the bride and groom who traverse the tunnel with some special moves of their own.  Another suggestion is to have the DJ read something funny or clever on behalf of each bridal party member when they are introduced.  Either way, it will make a big impression and set the tone for a fun, high impact event your guests will be sure to remember.

A Lifetime of Memories Video Montage

It has been said that once in a lifetime, you find someone, a soul-mate to accompany you through the journey of life.  _____ and _____ have found their soul-mate in one another and at this time, would like to share with you a lifetime of memories.  Couples frequently share with me that they have created a video with pictures of themselves as children, fun family memories and of themselves when they first met; winding through the dating years and ending on the doorstep of their wedding day.  If music is not already built into the video, Millennium Mobile DJ will coordinate with clients, music that best captures the mood.   This is a great way to invite guests into the lives of the bride & groom and will surely spark up nostalgia among some in attendance.  An opportune time to play the video is toward the end of dinner, prior to the commencement of formalities, as it will bring everyone closer together and help set the stage for an evening of dancing and fun.

Serenade the Bride/Groom

A great way to honor the bride and groom! Consider serenading them just after the best man’s toast whereby family and friends gather close to the couple and sing well wishes. The newlyweds will most likely embrace this deed and in the process, who knows, someone may discover they have an aptitude for the mic. In advance, it is suggested that family and friends receive a heads-us so they can prep their delivery for maximum impact. Of course, this can also be totally impromptu and guests may scramble to work in teams to offer up a heartfelt well wish and sing their best song.

Engage your guests in a dance competition

The theory behind this is to entice and motivate guests to take part in the spectacular celebration of your wedding day.  Inform guests in advance and solicit those willing to participate to give them opportune time to practice.  The competition could be a duo or group dance.  Those guests not participating will be the judges and will be given a score card and/or the winners may be determined via the loudest applause.  Also, in advance, consider prize options for the winners to include table center pieces or perhaps a small gift card.  This is a friendly contest designed to infuse fun and stage a unique element into your celebration.

Gaming during the cocktail hour

Retro has gone full circle both in the music and gaming world.  If you’re planning a wedding reception that will be more on the casual side or perhaps, have a vintage theme, have your guests secure their favorite beverage from the bar and roll out a cocktail hour that doubles as a game night prior to the arrival of the bridal party.   While your guests are gaming, your cool DJ will spin the tunes that fit the mood.   As for the games, consider those faves from days-gone-by and have a different game on each table with easy instructions to remind guests how to play.  Games, such as Sorry, Connect Four, Uno, Checkers or Scrabble, among others, will be sure to spark up nostalgia.
